Mandatory CBSE Compliance

CBSE Composite Skill Lab — built to the Board's exact guidelines

Skill and vocational education is now a mandatory part of the CBSE curriculum. EdgeFX designs, builds and operates Composite Skill Labs as dedicated, fixed-room installations that meet the Board's space, curriculum and equipment requirements precisely — using the same teacher-training and curriculum delivery methodology behind Infinity Labs™, so your school is compliant, not just equipped.

What CBSE Actually Requires

The guideline, in plain terms

Based on the CBSE Composite Skill Lab guidelines booklet and Circulars Skill-75/2024 and Skill-13/2026 — these are the specific requirements your school needs to meet, not general best practice.

Space
One Composite Skill Lab of 600 sq.ft. for Classes VI–XII, or two separate labs of 400 sq.ft. each — one for Classes VI–X and one for Classes XI–XII. Space must be well-ventilated with adequate electrical points and movable furniture for flexible reconfiguration.
Curriculum
Vocational Education is built around three "forms of work" — Life Forms, Working with Machines & Materials, and Working in Human Services. At the Middle Stage, each grade completes one project from each form of work — 9 projects in total by the end of Class 8.
Time allocation
NCF-SE 2023 mandates approximately 110 hours per year of vocational education for Classes VI–X — roughly 2–3 periods per week.
Affiliation rule
A Composite Skill Lab is now a mandatory prerequisite for schools seeking fresh CBSE affiliation. Already-affiliated schools have until 22 August 2027 to comply.
Annual showcase
NCF-SE 2023 calls for a Kaushal Mela (Skills Fair) at the end of each academic year, where students present their skill projects to the school, parents and community.
Choose Your Skill Sectors

CBSE offers 22 skill subjects in Classes IX–X, 43 in Classes XI–XII

Schools choose sectors based on local context, available teachers and nearby industry. EdgeFX equips and trains for any combination across these CBSE-recognised domains.

Composite Skill Lab sector domains

Electronics & Mechatronics Healthcare Agriculture Apparel Food Production IT / ITeS Artificial Intelligence Media & Entertainment Finance Graphic Design Tourism Beauty & Wellness Physical Activity Trainer
Already Have Infrastructure?

What can — and can't — convert into a Composite Skill Lab

Most schools don't start from zero. CBSE allows existing spaces to be leveraged, with one important exception.

Existing IT Lab
Supports Coding, AI, Finance, Graphic Design skill subjects
Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL)
Can support Electronics & Mechatronics delivery — but the ATL itself cannot be converted into the CSL
Home Science Lab
Supports Food Production & Baking
Open garden / green space
Supports Agriculture (tools must still be stored in the CSL)
Makers Space Lab
Closest existing fit — may convert directly if specifications are met
Important constraint: labs originally set up using government or special CBSE funds for a specific named purpose cannot be repurposed or converted into a Composite Skill Lab. EdgeFX's compliance audit (Step 1 below) flags this before you commit budget.

BUDGET PLANNING

Within CBSE's suggested range — or scaled up

CBSE suggests ₹3–6 lakh as an indicative range, depending on sectors chosen, lab size and furniture quality. EdgeFX scopes packages within this band for straightforward compliance, or as a more advanced multi-sector build for schools wanting a flagship facility.

TEACHER-LED, NOT SPECIALIST-DEPENDENT

Your existing staff can run this

As with Infinity Labs™, EdgeFX trains your existing teachers as facilitators rather than creating dependency on external specialists — structured session guides and facilitation training included.

Powered By

Infinity Labs™ methodology, fixed-lab installation

This compliance solution reuses EdgeFX's proven Infinity Labs™ delivery methodology — teacher enablement, structured learning cycles, and monitoring & continuity systems already running in 1,100+ schools nationally.

The physical format is different by design: CBSE's guidelines require a dedicated, fixed-room lab (600 sq.ft, or two 400 sq.ft rooms) — not the mobile, cart-based deployment Infinity Labs uses elsewhere. What you get here is a permanent installation built for full compliance, run with the same teacher-led, low-dependency approach.
